Helen Rucky of Johnson City Helen Rucky died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, January 31, 2010 at Wilson Hospital.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Nancy Pipta, her in-laws, John and Pauline Rucky and a brother-in-law, Joseph Hiznay.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bohdon (Bob) Rucky, two daughters, Julieanne and her husband Paul Marra and Colleen and her husband, Jonathan Whitney, three grandchildren, Dominic Marra, Bella and Evan Whitney, her sister, Mary Hiznay, her brother and sister-in-law, Col. John Pipta U.S.M.C.(ret.) and his wife, Rosemary, a niece, Nancy and her husband, Richard Mastro, and a nephew and godson, Kevin Hiznay and grand nieces and grand nephews, David, Meaghan, and Stephen Mastro and Jillian and Jessica Baumbach and sister-in-law, Mrs. Wayne (Mary Ann) Lombardo, and two nieces, Mrs. Tim (Christen) Baumbach and Suzanne Lombardo and godson, James Kaspryk.
She was a graduate of U-E High School and Ridley-Lowell Business School. She was a retired secretary for the IBM Corporation, Endicott, a retired librarian for the Binghamton Press Company and a fancy dessert maker for Wegman’s, Johnson City.
She was an active member of St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a Vice-President of St. Mary’s Sisterhood.
Helen enjoyed baking, sewing, traveling, the Food Channel and the pride and joy of her life, her grandson, Dominic.
Funeral Information
A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by the Rev. Father Zinoviy Zharsky on Thursday at 10am at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1 St. John’s Parkway, Johnson City. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rev. Zharsky will conduct a prayer service Wednesday 7pm at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street Binghamton where the family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to St. John’s Cemetery Fund, or to the charity of one’s choice.
