Mary Holovka Nider of Binghamton

Mary (Holovka) Nider 93 fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday morning, February 9, 2012.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Nider in 1973; her parents, Charles and Helen Holovka; four brothers and two sisters-in-law; Charles Jr. (Anne), John (Helen), Michael and Stephen Holovka, a sister and two brothers-in-law; Anne (George) Molessa and Andrew Branick Jr.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Demas and Wayne Mc Cleod of Albuquerque, NM and Darlene and Stephen Gumaer of Newark Valley; three grandchildren, Daphne Demas and her husband Tim Packard of New York City, Adam Gumaer of Richford and Tim Gumaer of Newark Valley; a great-grandson, Lukas Packard of New York City; a sister, Helen Branick of Binghamton; a sister-in-law, Maria Holovka of Binghamton; her “other sister”, Katherine Prytherch of Binghamton; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was an active parishioner of St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, singing in the Church Choir, working in the Recreation Center with the annual pirohi sales and waitressing the various catered affairs. She was also a member of the Ladies Guild. She will be always remembered as a great baker especially for her rhubarb pies and paska. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting; making many items for her family and friends.
She was a retired dietary clerk for Binghamton General Hospital.

Funeral Information

A Divine Liturgy on the Feast of the Meeting of the Lord and Funeral Service will be celebrated by Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko on Wednesday at 9am at St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rev. Dutko will conduct a prayer service on Tuesday at 4pm at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street Binghamton where the family will receive friends from 4-7pm.

Donations Information

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church Capital Campaign Fund or to the charity of one’s choice.
