Richard G. “Dick” Marko went to sleep in the Lord at his home on Oquaga Lake on June 12, 2009. Born on January 25, 1942, he is survived by his wife of thirty-one years; Barbara (Lorenz), his sister and her husband; Mary Anne and James Savicky, and the three nieces he adored; Dr. Melissa Savicky and her husband Dr. Paul Molloy, Amy and her husband Paul Injaian, and Julie Savicky. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, many cousins and godchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; George and Helen Marko, and his brother; Dr. Robert Marko. Richard was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and the School of Forestry at Syracuse University. He was President of the Syracuse Alumni Club of Binghamton. He was a member and past alumni president of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Syracuse. He was a huge fan of the Syracuse Orangemen. Richard was Planning Director for the Town of Union, Broome and Tioga Counties, and the City of Binghamton. Richard was a past member of Binghamton City Council. Before his retirement, he was a financial planner for several firms in the area. Previously, he was also proprietor of Amps Bar. Dick was an avid fisherman and a member of the Johnson City Sportsman’s Club and he was preparing for the annual fishing trip when the Lord told him his room was ready. He was a good friend to many and loved by all. Funeral InformationFuneral services will be held Wednesday 9am at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton and 9:30am at St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton where a Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rev. Dutko will conduct a prayer service Tuesday 7pm at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday 3-7pm. Donations InformationIn lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church.
