Mrs. Celia Koast

Celia (Kostyshak) Koast of Johnson City

Celia (Kostyshak) Koast 75, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday January 19, 2009. She passed away peacefully at Wilson Hospital with her family by her side. With beauty and dignity she fought a courageous battle against breast cancer. A beloved wife, mother sister, grandmother and aunt, she was predeceased by her parents William and Anna (Vencko) Kostyshak, three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her devoted husband of fifty four years, Theodore (Ted) Koast; her son David Koast; daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Matyas and beloved grandsons (Baba’s Boys) Nicholas and Kevin Matyas all of Johnson City; four brothers and one sister and many nieces and nephews.
She was an active member of St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, a former assistant treasurer and church board member, past president of the Ladies Guild. She was the “Soup Lady” who prepared all the soup for the Lenten missions and Pirohi Sales.
She was a graduate of Binghamton North High School and earned her Associates Degree in Accounting with Honors at Broome Community College while working full time. She was employed by Binghamton University for nineteen years and retired as a Financial Analyst. She was an accomplished woman who will be remembered for her strength in facing challenges, creativity and attention to detail. She loved her family, church and life. Celia was a very loving and caring person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to thank Drs. Stephen Paushter and Ronald Harris, the staff at Broome Oncology, Wilson Hospital staff on South Tower 5 and North Tower 3 for the compassionate care of Celia through her illness

Funeral Information

. A Divine Liturgy and funeral service will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko on Friday at 10 am at St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 9 am until the time of the service as well as Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton where Rev. Dutko will conduct a prayer service at 3 pm.
