Mr. Peter J. Bors

March 09, 1925 - August 20, 2017

Peter J. Bors of Johnson City

Peter J. Bors of Johnson City, age 92, died peacefully early Sunday morning, August 20, 2017, at Wilson Hospital. He is now with his beloved late wife of 62 years, Mary (Chebiniak) Bors and his daughter Caryl Bors. He was also predeceased by his father John W. Bors and Eleanor (Byra) Bors as well as his six brothers, Stanley, Chester, Walter, John, Anthony and Leo and his two sisters, Stephanie Budosh and Veronica Nates.

Peter is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, David P. Bors and Margaret (Remza) Bors and their beloved daughter, Cynthia Bors of Melbourne, Australia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews locally, across the nation and in Canada and England.

Peter was a retired employee of the I.B.M. Corporation in Endicott and a proud member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Atlantic Theater as a machinist mate in the engine room of a destroyer escort.

Peter was a devout Christian and he read the Bible every morning to start his day.  Peter and his wife enjoyed travelling across the country as well as their trips to Florida and Hawaii.  They especially enjoyed the times they shared with their granddaughter on day trips to parks, the pumpkin farm and historic places. He was an excellent vegetable gardener who was especially proud of his “Early Girl” tomatoes and cucumbers that his wife would can and pickle. Peter was an avid New York Yankees fan and New York Giants football fan.  He also loved to play golf on Sunday afternoons with his son.

The family is grateful to the staff of the James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home in Johnson City for their excellent care, compassion and understanding of Peter’s needs over the past few months.
