Stephen Himko Jr. of Binghamton

Stephen Himko 98 of Binghamton fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday morning, August 23, 2017.

He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Kostyshak) Himko, his parents, Stephen and Mary Himko, six brothers, John, Michael, George, Frank, Andrew, and William Himko, five sisters, Anna Lynn and Mary Jane Himko, Ann Peters, Irene Lucik and Marjorie Remza.

Stephen is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary (Pam) Himko and David (Linda) Himko of Johnson City; Paul (Cindy Sinclair) Himko and Kathy Himko of Binghamton; a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Robert Pastorkey of Kirkwood; a grand daughter, Jill Himko of Binghamton; a step grandson of Robert Sample of Johnson City; a sister, Dorothy Corcoran of Texas,;several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Lorraine Remza.

Stephen was a proud WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard as First Class Petty Officer Carpenter’s Mate on the Billy Mitchell transport ship that transported five thousand troops at a time.

Stephen retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. as a glazier for many years. He loved working in his vegetable garden even at the age of 97, sharing his bounty with family and friends. He loved his two cats and enjoyed his daily walks down Conklin Avenue with his son’s dog.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church.

Arrangements are through the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, Binghamton.

Funeral Information

A Funeral Service will be celebrated by Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko on Tuesday at 10:30 am at St. Michael’ s Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton where the family will receive friends 9:30am until the time of the service at church.
