George Vanca

November 10, 1929 - December 30, 2009

George Vanca 80, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, December 30, 2009, at Binghamton General Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Mary Vanca and a brother-in-law, Gerald (Murph) Hlopko.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Mildred; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and John Griffin of Binghamton; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Heather Vanca of Vestal; his grandson, Hunter Vanca; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and John Leskow of Endwell; Ann and Gilbert Beach of Johnson City; Helen Hlopko of Johnson City; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and John Robble of Endicott; Patty and Jim Enright of Portland, OR; also several loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church. He was also an active choir member and one of the chief pirohi cookers. He was a retired employee of the I.B.M. Corporation, Endicott after thirty-four years of service. He was a member of the Endicott I.B.M. Quarter Century Club, St. John’s Men’s Club and American Legion Post #1305.
George enjoyed hunting, growing garlic in his garden and picking mushrooms. He was an avid golfer and loved cooking for his family. George will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank Lourdes and Binghamton General Hospital for the loving care he received.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be Monday 9am at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton and 9:30am at St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton where a Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. Rev. Dutko will conduct a prayer service 6pm Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Sunday 3-6pm.
