Why Funerals?
As strange as it might sound, funerals traditionally have provided both an endpoint and a starting point. The endpoint signifies that a loved one has moved from life to death and through a funeral we celebrate the life lived and reaffirm our own spiritual beliefs. The starting point is just as significant. Through the traditions of a funeral, the survivors literally start a new life, one without their loved one. This new life could be from a married person to a widow or from a parent to someone who has lost their only child. The funeral helps that survivor share their grief with those who love and support them, and also helps society acknowledge and support their new “status” in the community.
