William Gonz of Chenango Bridge

William Gonz of Chenango Bridge 85 passed away on Sunday evening, December 10, 2017, at Wilson Hospital with his wife, Marena, of forty-three years by his side.

He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Eva Gonz, a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Marie Gonz.

Survived by his wife Marena Basos Gonz, his mother-in-law, Lola E. Basos of Binghamton; a brother-in-law, John (Virginia) Basos of Lafayette, CA; a niece Eva Marie Cline of Norfolk VA; a nephew, Michael Alexander Basos of Lafayette, CA, several cousins, many friends and his beloved cat, Jax.

Bill graduated from Binghamton Central High School. He attended Albany College of Pharmacy and graduated with the class of 1956. He owned and operated Gonz Pharmacy in Binghamton until 1975. He then worked as a pharmacist for twenty five years with the Broome County Developmental Center retiring in 1999.

He was a member of the Binghamton Lions Club and Trinity Memorial Church where he served as an usher and counter for several years. He was also an usher at the Anderson Center for several years after his retirement.

He was very patriotic and proudly served for seven years with the Army National Guard in the Medical Corps and was honorably discharged.

He enjoyed gardening, golfing, reading Westerns, carpentry, feeding birds, attending operas and symphonies, travelling to Chautauqua, New York in summers, and visiting his family in Arizona and California during holidays.

He also enjoyed international travels to Japan, Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

Bill was very kind, compassionate, caring and honorable person who was always concerned about his customers.

Friends are invited to join the family on Saturday at 12:30pm at Little Venice Restaurant for a lunch.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Linda Fort, Dr. Khalid Sethi and Dr. Paul Forfia (Temple University Hospital) for their compassionate care given to Bill over the years.

Funeral Information

The family will receive friends at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton on Saturday from 10 to 11am followed by a funeral service with Rev. Glenn Mahaffey, Rector of Trinity Memorial Church, officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
