Obituary for Anna Eckert

Anna Eckert, 81, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, June 12, 2018, at her home.
Ann was a member a St. Michael’s Orthodox Church and former president of its school guild. She was a retired employee for Verizon Telephone Company, Binghamton. (MaBell/NYTel) She was a member of the NY State Telephone Pioneers and a member and chaplain of American Legion Post #80 Axillary, Binghamton. Ann, Anna or Annie Bananie (however you knew her by) was a loving, caring, nurturing wife, mom, grandma and friend. She was for years an avid bingo and candy crush player. Ann loved her scratch offs and her casino dates with her son, David. She was a dedicated chicken picker for the chicken and biscuit dinners held at Post #80. She looked forward to her yearly Johnson City High School Reunion picnics. Her life gave family and friends memories too beautiful to forget…especially her cooking…Holupki and Kolachki.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles D. Eckert. She is survived by her five children: Patricia Eckert of Binghamton, C. David (Nanette) Eckert of Apalachin, Kathleen (George) Hafele of Norwich, Judith Eckert (Tony Salvatore) of Endwell, and Susan Eckert (Frank Barbera) of Johnson City, eight grandchildren; Trevor Holmes, Courtney Kucera, Amanda Rozboril, Kaylie and Madison Hafele, Logan and Rieley Hill and Kaitlyn Eckert, and two great grandchildren; James and Aiyana Elliott. Also surviving are cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A Divine Liturgy and funeral service will be celebrated by Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 9:30am at St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, 292 Clinton Street, Binghamton, Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday 1-4pm at Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton.
